I. Venomous Spider's Web

Stay calm. Don't breathe. Just keep still. This is all agent Takashima Kouyou trained for. The dark around him blended into black leather and barely gave a hint of light eyes locked onto a knowing target. His automatic gun was only half loaded but it would have to be enough for whatever loomed on the other side of that door. He stood quietly beside an office desk full of valuable documents. Time had run out to gather any more for this mission. Careful footsteps followed the white halls outside. More came soon after as Kouyou looked down to see a figure cast a shadow at the bottom of the door.

There's too many, he knew this would be another suicide mission. It wouldn't be the first time he was forced into a situation like this; his hands began to tremble over the trigger. His heart was the only thing he could hear louder than the heavy boots walking in uniformity. The corded phone on the desk began to ring loudly and rapidly. Without thinking, he picked it up to almost expectantly hear his commander on the other line. "Get the hell out of there! It's a fucking trap-"

The door crashed open. He was already gone. The window in the back of the room was shattered. Papers and documents scattered the air and the floor as the night breeze rushed in. The phone hang off the torn desk with an abandoned hook. The unsuspecting soldiers turned back with lasers targetted in every direction. The primary soldier walked to the edge of the open room to face the blistering city cold. The destruction of the building paled in comparison to the immortal lights and sounds of civilization. The armored man turned away to signal his commerades out of the room.

It seemed that Takashima knew something he shouldn't have. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been discovered in such a manner. There was no way he could escape the building without being seen. There were too many floors to climb down. Too many cameras could pick him up. He knew what he was in for the moment he was set up to be Japan's top spy and assassin. He swung his way back into the government archive through a couple windows below the room he escaped. The glass of the clear window shattered just enough for him to avoid getting scraped. If he had spent any longer in the flurry of winter wind he would have surely lost his grip from the concrete ledge.

The night's virgin snow poured in from the shattered opening. Nothing seemed special about this room, aside from the layer of glass strewn through the room, but he decided to check for any more valuable files. He went for a filing cabinet next to a rather clean office desk, hands shaking and red. The third drawer was filled completely with what he needed - files dangerous to society that needed to be reviewed and destroyed. If gotten into the wrong hands, he would be terminated and replaced. These files, however, were on a particularly dangerous subject: experimentation involving humans and animals. A camera issued to him for missions such as this created what light he needed. After an agonizing minute of recording whatever he could, Kouyou took hold of his gun and started toward the door with an odd feeling upon reading the last two copies momentarily.

He slowly unlocked the door after realizing no one had heard his entry from a couple floors above or below. He creaped his head around the doorway with figetting hands. The narrow halls were blindingly white against black carpet. He checked both directions and slipped through the door. Just as he started toward the right, his phone began to vibrate in his coat pocket. At a time like this? He answered to once again hear the commander. "Ruki, I'm in a fucking tight spot right now. Give me a minute." He reminded himself to keep calm and failed slightly. His nerves were on the brink of shattering at this point. The commander simply ignored the remark. "You're going the wrong way. Take a left and go down the staff stairs two flights. Shoot to kill."

Uruha turned the other way and ran to a door labelled Staff Use Only at the end of the hall. He creaked the door enough to fit the barrel of his gun through the opening. Hearing no sign of movement, he forced his way through the heavy metal door and began down the winding stairs. "Alright, what now?" He almost forgot Ruki was helping him due to his splintering senses. "Reita sent a couple of my leading officers to ensure your safety. They will be in the staff room you're about to come up on. From there you will have to shoot your way through to the back door." Kouyou saw the door to the staff room and almost busted it open.

Red lasers met his honey blonde hair and trailed his leather coat as he stopped dead in his place. For a moment his heart nearly stopped. His phone dropped to the concrete floor and cracked slightly. "FUCK!" "Uruha, get down!" He almost didn't hear his commerades across the room shout as his mind raced with how many bullets could pierce his body at once. He lifted his gun without hesitation and fired as he was ordered. Almost shocked at his reaction, his commerades followed as the group of laser guns fell without question.

Even as his clip ran dry Kouyou continued to find any signs of remaining life from the enemy. All fell silent. The air became intoxicating in a thick scent of iron. A dark substance began to cloud the floor. There was no time for remorse. They knew there would be more of them coming and fast. "Are you alright?" He looked over at a couple of concerned faces, something he wasn't quite used to seeing, especially from military officials. He nodded blankly, unsure of what to do next. Then he remembered his phone on the floor, abandoned and damaged. He snatched it hurriedly to avoid the pool of expanding blood.

"Good boy. Don't worry if you're out of bullets. Beyond the back door is clear. Make your way behind the building and you're safe." The call clicked and Kouyou only snarled. He looked toward the other two, who had bleeding scratches down the side of their faces due to earlier conflicts, and led them to the entrance to the back alley. The lock had already been busted. They were once again in the dark tracing every corner and each step for treachery. There seemed to be no cameras in this alley, but they took no chances. Takashima's breathing staggered and hitched due to the extreme temperature. His head started to pound as he tried to gather his thoughts.

As they come upon an intersection in the alley, a black Jeep from their underground organization waited. The two soldiers ahead of Kouyou ran up to the passenger door to make sure. He followed quickly behind to find another of his commerades in the driver seat. "This place is about to get very bad. We're going back to the base." He nodded without saying a word and got into the vehicle. They sped off in the opposite direction of the archive as soon as they passenger door slammed shut.

As soon as he took his seat in the back of the Jeep, another call from the weary agent's phone startled him more than it should've. The three soldiers noticed and gave him an awkward glance. He answered it quickly. "Uruha, Commander Ruki requests your assistance upon your arrival." He knew what he had to do and yet he felt a peculiar sense of paranoia as he heard Reita's monotone voice. He kept his sight through a tinted window to his right and tried to steady his breathing. Something kept telling him to disobey, to just turn back now..

"And the files? Did you obtain anymore information?" Ruki stood from his silver desk and walked slowly to his top agent. He was dressed rather unusually for a governmental commanding official. His hair was curled above his shoulders and dyed lightly. A thick line of eyeliner traced around light grey eyes. His dark suit looked meticulously put together. He was handed a small camera as he looked up suspiciously toward Kouyou, who adorned the same eyeliner. He only glanced at his superior and stared mindlessly at the changing screens on the front wall of the control room. No one was to be trusted when in this sort of risky business, and almost no one was permitted in this room. Close supervision was on check inside and out of the reinforced steel building, especially in this side of the facility.

The commander walked back to his desk to review the files he needed on the main computer. He looked back up to see Kouyou on his way out of the room. "Agent Uruha.." He stopped him in his tracks. For a reason he couldn't place, his heart started to race. "Come with me. There is something I've been needing to show you." He was led through a piercing white hallway toward an observatory. Military personel and medical field experts passed them as they got deeper into the facility. The air became slightly uneasy the closer they got.

"As you know, you are trusted most by me and Reita. We cannot afford anything less from your service. We can only assume you trust us the same." They stepped into an elevator and started down to the lower levels of the observatory. Kouyou had never been in this part of the building nor did he think he would ever be taken there. He flipped his dark blonde hair from his right eye to try to shake off the nervous feeling consuming him. Something wasn't right. No one in his position nor under his authority should be allowed into this area.

As they were lowered into the next room, the unsuspecting agent couldn't believe his eyes. Labelled test subjects behind glass walls lay on small white beds, some with many wires hanging from their arms and torso. On one side of the massive metal room resided the scientists and doctors behind a long glass window running tests and reviewing data from each subject. On the opposite side of the room held what seemed to be failed experiments and prototypes that were now beyond human or animal. One particular experiment lay half off a medical bed with numerous wires hanging from its arm. Bronze fur covered its human-like body. Its eyes bloodshot and half open. There was no telling how many times this creature had been tested on.

Takashima was disgusted. He then tried to remember how the disappearances of previous top officials and agents had happened. He slowly looked over to Ruki, who seemed unmoved by the abomination around them. He wondered if his head governmental commander had any amount of humanity left in him. The older man brushed his light hair to the side to look up at him with ambitious eyes. "This is my new project, dear Kouyou.. This will be the future of our organization. I'm going to build a superior race. A work of genetically altered art from my own design."

His confidence only enraged his younger agent. As the elevator landed, the grid-like enclosure released them. Ruki turned back to see a quite paranoid Kouyou and simply motioned him to follow. He stiffened his back a bit and followed the shorter man, shuffling his feet. He didn't want to be there, and they both knew it. This was the exact work that he had thought they were preventing from happening. All of the files he had obtained for this government for so many years were never destroyed, but used to their advantage. His head began to spin rapidly as they stopped in front of a glass wall of the first test subject.

"Matsumoto-san..these are people. Are you fucking insane?" Ruki stopped beside a clean medical table next to the first test subject and put on a pair of black rimmed reading glasses. He smirked as he picked up a seringe and a dark unlabelled bottle. Suddenly, warning alarms sounded off and the scientists at their desks scattered frantically to fix the problem. Another test subject from the end of the room had awoken and began screaming uncontrollably. Pure terror and confusion was clear on his face. Half of his head was shaved and held a long wire showing his brain wave frequencies on a screen beside his bed. Ignoring the rest of the wires connected to his bruised body, he stood up to try his strength on the shatter-proof walls around him.

To avoid him from causing harm to himself, the scientists at the front desk of the control room released a gas to put him to sleep. The warning alarms died down as he fell silent on the clear white floor. Kouyou watched this with his mouth open in shock. He held a hand to his forehead in disbelief. Then a nonchalant Ruki walked toward him holding both hands behind his back. "Come this way, Uru." A smug look hung over his almost perfect face. He led the terrified agent to the opposite side of the room with a secured door labelled PEACE ANGELS.

"I don't expect you to understand this at all. But I want you to know you're my favorite-" He was interupted as he was suddenly backhanded hard across his face, smudging his perfect eyeliner. He just laughed at Kouyou's outburst of anger. "Shut up! How the fuck can I trust you? You're playing God on innocent people!" The military personel at the gates of the elevator caught sight of this and started toward them. Ruki knew how to handle this and raised a hand to signal the man off. "Not even your little soldier friends know about this beautiful work I've done. All I want it a little appreciation." Just as Kouyou wasn't paying any certain attention to what Takanori was holding in his other hand, he was injected with a needle into his shoulder.

The shocking sting made him jump back as he felt it course like flames in his veins. "What the hell did you give me?" Rage burned in his amber eyes and his face grew pale. Ruki smiled rather sweetly as he walked closer to him and put a hand on his other shoulder. He stood taller to meet his blurring gaze directly. "Welcome to my new project, love." He continued to smile as backed away slowly and motioned for his leading scientists. Before he knew it, Kouyou began to fall and his mind was in a complete fog. His eyes remained open as he fell unconscious. A couple of older doctors caught him before his head could hit the ground.

"Pitiful." He ran a hand down his soft face as a tear escaped his clouded eyes. "Make sure my assassin is in top condition when I come back with the blueprints." Ruki turned his back as the scientists and doctors carried his lithe body through the PEACE ANGELS doorway. He walked onto the elevator to meet his dear friend Suzuki Akira at the entrance and left with an accomplished expression. They didn't speak a word until they were released from the elevator to the top floor. The two commanders walked fast and quietly to the main hall to the control room shoving past anyone beneath their authority.

As they made their way to the room, they bolted the door shut to avoid any sign of evesdropping. "Are you sure he's the one, Takanori?" Reita stood by the door and adjusted his noseband hiding his notorious battle scar. He watched as Ruki looked frantically for his precisely made blueprints for the new experiment. Older failed projects and blueprints scattered the top of his desk and the control panel behind him. The more he searched, the slower he got. "Akira..of course I'm sure. He's-"

A sudden migrane struck him without warning. The pain forced him to rest in his dark silk chair for a moment. Reita knew how long he'd been having these attacks, but he simply passed it off as a childhood injury. He knew better. He walked over to his longtime friend and sat on the messy table beside him. He held out a hand to rest on the smaller man's shoulder. His other hand took hold of his forehead and pushed back a few strands covering his right eye. This was the only other person to know of Ruki's condition or ever find him in this state.

A few minutes passed before he was able to open his eyes again. Dark concerned eyes met his as he reached out to take Reita's hand from his burning forehead. "Are you alright now?" He sighed trying not to lie. He nodded to reassure him. "Takashima must have triggered it. You need to be more careful." He sensed the annoyance in his voice and shrugged it off. Reita hadn't like Ruki's new pet since they brought him in straight from training. For that kid to cause harm to his only friend and the chief commander of this opperation, he was glad to see him about to be taken apart and reassembled like a toy.

Ruki knew how concerned Akira was for his condition, but couldn't care for anything else in the world for his selfish ambition: to create the perfect new generation. He would make it even if it killed him. "He's perfect, so I'll forgive him." Reita frowned at this and walked over to the control screen. "Perhaps when you see what he becomes you may forgive him too. He's done so well for us, after all." He smirked as he glanced to find the blueprints he had been looking for. He rose from his ornate chair slowly to avoid anymore treamors to his head. "I hope you don't plan to use any of my valuable soldiers for this too. They're irreplacable for the international affairs I have coming up."

Suzuki turned to show a look of distaste as he saw Ruki taking hold of a few more blueprints labelled Subject Kai and Project Aoi. Both were the names of Reita's top sniper and hacker. They couldn't afford to lose them to a failed experiment and Ruki knew it. But knowing him, he could risk any resources he had at hand for one perfect outcome. He tilted his head at the word "irreplacable". The taller military leader rolled his eyes and folded his arms. As the plans were rolled up to avoid wandering eyes, they started toward the door. "I will not fail this time." Ruki walked proudly back to the observatory and Reita followed close behind.

"Now for the first phase.."

My first possibly successful fanfiction involving Ruki, Uruha, Aoi, Kai, and Reita of the GazettE. At first I simply started this story to pass the time, but I just kept going. x) This wouldn't be the usual fanfic a fan would expect, set in a modern-day underground military organization, Ruki and Reita being behind the entire operation. As for the rest, have fun. Let me know for any errors and if the story was interesting in any way. :3
The only warning I have for this is some mature language and a mad-man (Ruki-san, of course!). Expect more along the way!

Disclaimer: I obviously and quite sadly do not own the members of GazettE. :rose:
